A simple vista, todo ocurre en un entorno digital sin impacto visible. Sin embargo, detr&#225;s de cada interacci&#243;n existe una infraestructura f&#237;sica que requiere energ&#237;a y, en muchos casos, vol&#250;menes significativos de agua para su funcionamiento.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span>Cuando una persona realiza una consulta en sistemas basados en inteligencia artificial, la respuesta no se genera en un espacio abstracto: estas plataformas operan en centros de datos que contienen miles de servidores. Durante el procesamiento, los equipos generan calor, el cual debe disiparse para evitar da&#241;os en los sistemas. Aunque el consumo asociado a una sola pregunta es peque&#241;o, el uso masivo amplifica el impacto. Algunas estimaciones sugieren que entre 20 y 50 consultas a sistemas de inteligencia artificial pueden representar, aproximadamente, el equivalente a medio litro de agua utilizado en procesos de enfriamiento. De esta manera, una &#250;nica interacci&#243;n tendr&#237;a una fracci&#243;n m&#237;nima, pero millones de consultas diarias generan un consumo acumulado significativo.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span>Para dimensionarlo, si un usuario realiza varias decenas de preguntas durante una jornada de trabajo o estudio, el consumo indirecto podr&#237;a aproximarse al contenido de una botella de agua. Al multiplicar esta actividad por millones de personas en todo el mundo, la demanda h&#237;drica asociada a la inteligencia artificial adquiere relevancia ambiental.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span>Este fen&#243;meno se repite a escala global con la expansi&#243;n de la infraestructura digital. No obstante, el objetivo no es cuestionar el avance de la inteligencia artificial, sino promover su evoluci&#243;n responsable. Existen alternativas t&#233;cnicas que permiten reducir el consumo de agua, como los sistemas de refrigeraci&#243;n en circuito cerrado, el enfriamiento por aire de alta eficiencia y la reutilizaci&#243;n de aguas tratadas. Estas estrategias demuestran que el progreso digital puede ser compatible con la conservaci&#243;n de los recursos naturales.</span></p><div class="callout-block" data-callout="true"><div Su popularizaci&#243;n se debe, en parte, a su fabricaci&#243;n asequible, por lo que muchos laboratorios, principalmente integrados por profesionales qu&#237;micos, han tenido oportunidad de realizar y2="14"></line></svg></button></div></div></div></a></figure></div><p style="text-align: justify;">La adquisici&#243;n de insumos para su fabricaci&#243;n resulta m&#225;s sencilla y su sintetizaci&#243;n es un proceso de baja complejidad. Los insumos precursores para sintetizaci&#243;n suelen ser soluciones qu&#237;micas que se depositan por diferentes m&#233;todos sobre substratos, formando as&#237; pel&#237;culas delgadas de estructura qu&#237;mica ABX<sub>3</sub>, donde A es un compuesto i&#243;nico, B representa iones de plomo (Pb<sup>2+</sup>) y esta&#241;o (Sn<sup>2+</sup>), y X representa iones hal&#243;genos.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Sin duda, la fabricaci&#243;n de las c&#233;lulas a base de perovskita es significativamente m&#225;s econ&#243;mica que la de las c&#233;lulas solares III-V &#8211;producidas en base a elementos de la columna III y V de la tabla peri&#243;dica&#8211;, que a&#241;o tras a&#241;o han dominado los r&#233;cords de eficiencia mundial en la conversi&#243;n de energ&#237;a solar a energ&#237;a el&#233;ctrica. La producci&#243;n de c&#233;lulas solares III-V es altamente compleja y demanda un alto costo derivado de los insumos especializados, como arsina y materiales metalorg&#225;nicos, y del m&#233;todo epitaxial de crecimiento de cada c&#233;lula base [1]. Este alto costo solo puede ser cubierto por proyectos de alta inversi&#243;n financiera, como lo son los proyectos espaciales. Por ejemplo, las c&#233;lulas solares III-V se usan com&#250;nmente como fuentes de energ&#237;a en sat&#233;lites.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Sin embargo, la caracter&#237;stica m&#225;s relevante de las c&#233;lulas solares de perovskita es la eficiencia de conversi&#243;n alcanzada en los &#250;ltimos a&#241;os, comparable a la eficiencia de las c&#233;lulas solares III-V. Algunas c&#233;lulas solares de perovskita ya superan el 26 % de eficiencia de conversi&#243;n, una haza&#241;a considerando su facilidad y econom&#237;a en producci&#243;n en comparaci&#243;n con las c&#233;lulas solares multijuntura III-V m&#225;s eficientes, que alcanzan el 40 % [2]. M&#225;s recientemente, un grupo de investigadores de la Universidad Nacional de Singapur prob&#243; una nueva c&#233;lula h&#237;brida, es decir, una juntura de una c&#233;lula de perovskita con otra de silicio, cuyo material de adhesi&#243;n entre ambas fue reforzado en su composici&#243;n para resistir la degradaci&#243;n por calentamiento por cuenta de la incidencia de radiaci&#243;n solar [3]. El equipo anunci&#243; que esta c&#233;lula h&#237;brida alcanz&#243; el 34 % de eficiencia, a&#250;n mejor, las pruebas que realizaron demuestran que esta preserva su perfil de operaci&#243;n de &#8220;f&#225;brica&#8221; despu&#233;s de 1200 horas de iluminaci&#243;n solar continua a 65 &#186;C. Este es un logro mayor para la investigaci&#243;n en c&#233;lulas solares de perovskita, ya que la degradaci&#243;n de los materiales componentes por calentamiento, a temperaturas superiores a los 55 &#186;C, es uno de los grandes desaf&#237;os a superar. En consecuencia, la eficiencia de conversi&#243;n va reduci&#233;ndose progresivamente debido a la exposici&#243;n solar continua. Por eso, la resistencia a altas temperaturas de operaci&#243;n que muestra esta nueva c&#233;lula solar h&#237;brida de perovskita constituye el buen indicio de una larga vida &#250;til.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Hay un par de detalles importantes cuando se comparan c&#233;lulas solares de perovskita con c&#233;lulas solares III-V: estas &#250;ltimas han alcanzado altas eficiencias de conversi&#243;n cuando han sido fabricadas en forma de m&#250;ltiples junturas semiconductoras <em>p</em>-<em>n</em>, adem&#225;s, bajo muy altas concentraciones solares que van desde 143 hasta 942 veces la potencia promedio de radiaci&#243;n solar terrestre [2]. Las c&#233;lulas solares de perovskita, por el contrario, han mostrado eficiencias de hasta el 26.95 % [2,4,5] con estructura m&#225;s simple de apenas una sola juntura, demandando, por lo tanto, menor cantidad de insumos y de etapas en su proceso de sintetizaci&#243;n. Adem&#225;s, las c&#233;lulas de perovskita alcanzan tales eficiencias sin concentraci&#243;n solar, anulando as&#237; la necesidad de instrumentaci&#243;n complementaria para el incremento de la concentraci&#243;n solar y, por lo tanto, energ&#237;a adicional para su operaci&#243;n. </p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" ello se proyecta su comercializaci&#243;n en un futuro cercano. No obstante, el mercado espacial, actualmente dominado por las c&#233;lulas III-V, es arduo de conquistar, ya que estas c&#233;lulas se encuentran en una etapa de avanzada madurez tecnol&#243;gica y poseen grande estabilidad t&#233;rmica.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Ahora bien, las c&#233;lulas de perovskita tienen amplio terreno ganado como para desbancar a las de silicio y convertirse en las favoritas de la industria de c&#233;lulas solares terrestres. Las c&#233;lulas solares de silicio han sido las primeras del planeta en ser globalizadas, por ello son consideradas la primera generaci&#243;n de c&#233;lulas solares. Son f&#225;cilmente reconocidas por su intenso color azul, atravesado por delgadas l&#237;neas grises que vienen a ser los metales conductores de la corriente el&#233;ctrica generada. Su difusi&#243;n global fue impulsada por la abundancia del silicio en la corteza terrestre, lo que permiti&#243; abaratar intensivamente el costo de producci&#243;n a gran escala. A pesar de que su desarrollo tecnol&#243;gico a&#250;n contin&#250;a, su eficiencia de conversi&#243;n m&#225;xima se ha visto estancada en torno al 25 % en las &#250;ltimas dos d&#233;cadas [2]. Es aqu&#237; que las c&#233;lulas solares de perovskita se muestran como un fuerte rival capaz de reemplazarlas, una vez que sus propiedades alcancen los requisitos de comercializaci&#243;n. De hecho, se prev&#233; que las c&#233;lulas de perovskita constituir&#225;n el est&#225;ndar de la industria terrestre en la pr&#243;xima d&#233;cada, ya que su desarrollo tecnol&#243;gico contin&#250;a prosperando y su eficiencia sigue aumentando de forma gradual.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Los desaf&#237;os principales en el camino hacia la comercializaci&#243;n de las c&#233;lulas solares de perovskita son, como ya se ha mencionado, mejorar tanto la estabilidad t&#233;rmica bajo exposici&#243;n solar como su estabilidad en condiciones medioambientales particulares, mediante la optimizaci&#243;n de m&#233;todos para menguar la degradaci&#243;n por humedad relativa mayor al 50 %. Asimismo, evitar la oxidaci&#243;n de materiales componentes [4,5]. Uno de tales m&#233;todos es el encapsulamiento, es decir, el cubrimiento de las c&#233;lulas con materiales de protecci&#243;n que no reaccionan con el agua y el ox&#237;geno del ambiente, aunque la radiaci&#243;n solar absorbida por la c&#233;lula puede verse disminuida. Otro reto a superar es aminorar el cambio composicional de las c&#233;lulas de perovskita cuando en ellas incide la radiaci&#243;n solar ultravioleta [4]. Este ser&#237;a un serio problema a resolver en el caso de ser utilizadas en regiones andinas de gran altitud en Per&#250; y Chile, donde la intensidad de la radiaci&#243;n solar es de las m&#225;s altas del planeta. De todas maneras, confiando en la predicci&#243;n de los expertos en el &#225;rea, las c&#233;lulas solares de perovskita lograr&#225;n vencer estas limitaciones y las veremos, en un futuro
